veganeatsanegg asked: Tell me more about sugar! She's so beautiful! How long have you had her? What is it like having her as a pet instead of keeping her outside?
I love it. Most people think I’m crazy until they see that she wants nothing more than to jump right in your lap and cuddle. I’ve had her for about a year, she was an adult when I got her - the woman I purchased her from was a breeder. She was past her laying years and she wasn’t of much use around the farm, so instead of “getting rid of her” in the traditional way, the woman sold her to me, knowing I was just looking for a pet to love on.
I purchased her, and her mate - Nash (who was later eaten by my friend’s dog - a very horrible moment that all too many chicken owners face at one time or another) but that was back in the day when she lived outside. Now that it’s just her, I’ve babied her and spoiled her. She follows me around the house, makes noises to me and talks to me when I talk back. If I just time when I feed her and put her outside in her cage for a few hours after lunch and dinner, she’s really good about not going to the bathroom in the house. She also won’t poop on the couch, or on me (YAY!) When she’s inside, she immediately makes her way to the tv room, where she has her own stool that I cover in old goodwill bedsheets. She’s basically the most precious little thing and makes a great indoor pet. I’ve never been a dog or cat person, so I guess I’ve finally found my spirit animal!
